Curses and Blessings
When the Bible speaks of blessings and curses, God places before us a profound choice in Deuteronomy 30:19: I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life.
This is far more than ancient instruction. It is a piercing diagnosis of human nature itself. Instinctively we gravitate toward self-interest, personal advancement, and immediate gain, often at the expense of community and long-term good. We are morally compromised, emotionally unavailable, and selfish by default, yet beneath it all lies a divine soul yearning for transcendence.
Today this tendency stands exposed. Conflicts rage and global energy and security hang in the balance. At the same time a worsening loneliness epidemic leaves nearly half of young adults isolated, mental health crises deepen, and societal divisions widen. Hyper-individualism, scarcity mindsets, and relational shallowness have become normalized.
Yet the biblical call feels urgent precisely because of this. The choice to live is not abstract. It demands we love the Lord, obey His voice, and cling to Him. Real blessing, real life, arrives only when we reject isolation and self-advancement and instead reconnect to something godly and to the people right beside us in covenant love, family, and genuine community.
Choose life. Choose connection. Choose Him.
